Introducing the Northeast Nutweb
Connecting nut growers and consumers across the Northeast
Making Local Nuts Accessible to Everyone
The Northeast Nutweb is a free online marketplace built on Open Food Network (OFN) that connects nut producers with buyers throughout the Northeast region. If you are looking for local nuts, trees or nut products, the Nutweb can help you find what you want. If you are a producer of nuts or nut products, whether you have a few trees in your yard or a large-scale operation, this platform helps you reach interested buyers. I Want to Buy Nuts I Have Nuts to SellAbout This Project
The Northeast Nutweb was developed as part of the SARE-funded project "Identifying and Collecting Seed from Genetically Superior Walnut, Hickory and Pecan Trees on Yates County, New York Farms." The project identified that lack of seed market transparency was a major barrier preventing on-farm nuts from reaching the seed market.
This tool addresses that barrier by making regional nut supply visible and accessible. When widely used, the Nutweb helps:
- Increase diversity and desirability of regionally-adapted tree seed
- Connect farmers with productive uses for their on-farm nut trees
- Support the growth of local and regional nut economies
- Preserve butternut trees and identify canker-resistant specimens
Collaborators: Black Squirrel Farms, Yates County Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension-Yates County, Our Sci, Yates County Chamber of Commerce, and independent agricultural researchers.
This work is supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture through the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program under subaward number ONE24-463-AWD00001359.
